Searching for a Counsellor can be very scary. I realise that if you are visiting my website, you may be doing so in search of some help, maybe you are suffering some sort of turmoil, stress, loss, anxiety or depression which seems to be taking over your life and affecting you and your relationships or maybe you're struggling with anger or OCD.
It may feel like no one can help you right now, however over two decades ago, a life changing event caused me to re-evaluate my future, what I needed and wanted from life. With the help of a very gifted Therapist, I moved forward and began to understand myself.
My name is Emma and I am a BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Accredited Integrative Counsellor and CBT Counsellor with a Counselling Practice in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
I also work for healthcare providers BUPA, Aviva and Axa PPP Recognised and work for many local businesses and health insurers who require counselling and therapy for their employees and members.
I am an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists), Insured, DBS Checked, have Regular Professional Supervision and at least 30 hours CPD (Continuing Professional Development) per year. During my career, I have worked for Social Services and the NHS for over 10 years and also work for many local businesses directly, EAP's (Employee Assistance Programmes) and Health Insurers.
Over the past 19 years my experience as a Therapist has taught me that clients need to be respected, not judged and really heard, knowing their confidence will not be broken.
I can work with clients on a time limited basis (say 6 to 12 sessions) or on an open ended basis, it's completely up to you. Two of my primary interests are working with anger management and anxiety. I offer my clients a safe and confidential place to discuss their worries and concerns which enables them to move forward at their own pace.

What does Integrative mean?
I am an Integrative Counsellor with a particular focus on the relational aspect of the work. Individuals think, feel and react in different ways and by integrating different theories; it can bring about change in their lives. An integrative Counsellor can work with each person to produce a unique therapy adapted to suit what that individual client needs. Below are some of the approaches that an integrative counsellor may use.
Person Centred Counselling
Person Centred Counselling offers a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor, in which the client can explore what they need and want and how they can achieve their goals.
Psychodynamic Counselling
Psychodynamic Counselling works by bringing unconscious processes and emotions into consciousness; there is an emphasis on the influence of the past and on recurring patterns of behaviours and relationships.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works by examining the ways that thoughts, feelings and behaviours can affect each other and how different aspects of these can be changed to solve specific problems.
