Counselling, CBT & Anger Management

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk near Haverhill, Thetford, Newmarket & Sudbury

Welcome

Searching for a counsellor can feel daunting. If you are visiting my website, you may be looking for support because something in your life is causing you distress. You may be feeling overwhelmed by your thoughts or emotions, struggling with relationships, coping with a loss, finding it difficult to manage anger or feeling held back by patterns that no longer serve you. Whatever your circumstances, I offer a safe and supportive space to explore what is happening and help you move forward.

Over two decades ago, a life changing event led me to re-evaluate my own future and what I wanted from life. With the support of a skilled therapist, I began to understand myself more fully and move forward. That experience ultimately inspired me to train as a counsellor and help others do the same.

My name is Emma, and I am a BACP Accredited Integrative Counsellor and CBT Counsellor based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Alongside my private practice, I work with recognised healthcare providers including BUPA, Aviva and AXA Health, as well as local businesses, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), and health insurers, providing counselling and therapy to their employees and members.

21 Years Experience

Over the past two decades, my experience as a therapist has taught me that people need to feel respected, not judged and genuinely heard with the confidence that what they share will remain confidential.

I work with clients on both a time-limited and open-ended basis depending on what feels right for them. My particular interests include anger management and understanding how family dynamics, family roles and childhood experiences can shape who we become as adults. Exploring these influences can help you gain insight into current difficulties, move beyond patterns that may be holding you back and become more fully yourself.

I offer a safe, supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly about your worries and concerns, helping you to move forward at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

"Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life thinking it's stupid".

What does Integrative mean?

I am an Integrative Counsellor with a particular focus on the relational aspect of the work. Individuals think, feel and react in different ways and by integrating different theories; it can bring about change in their lives. An integrative Counsellor can work with each person to produce a unique therapy adapted to suit what that individual client needs. Below are some of the approaches that an integrative counsellor may use.

Person Centred Counselling

Person Centred Counselling offers a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor, in which the client can explore what they need and want and how they can achieve their goals.

Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic Counselling works by bringing unconscious processes and emotions into consciousness; there is an emphasis on the influence of the past and on recurring patterns of behaviours and relationships.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works by examining the ways that thoughts, feelings and behaviours can affect each other and how different aspects of these can be changed to solve specific problems.
